Classroom Happenings: August 22-26

Memory Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own
understanding. Proverbs 3:5

This Week:
I am excited to announce that the students will have their first Music class this week! They are enjoying all of their Specials, especially Computer Lab! This week we will be focusing on the story of Noah and his obedience to God. In Spelling, we will continue to review letter sounds and blends, while practicing for our first Spelling Test on Friday! Be sure and check your child's red homework folder for our weekly spelling words.

The students continue to impress me with their behavior and work ethic during our Reading Groups! They are reading from both their book boxes and Jack and Jilly Readers! Writer's Workshop is also a fun time for students. We are learning to write about one topic and use details in our supporting sentences. Be sure and ask your child about the Squiggle Story they will write this week! :-)

In Math, we will be focusing on pictographs and solving word problems. We will also begin daily practice of our doubles addition facts! In Science, we will continue exploring the world of magnets! We had a great time last week testing different magnets in small groups. This week, we will learn how magnets help us both in work and play. We will also practice using magnets through different materials such as paper, foil, plastic, and even water!

Homework:
Be sure and check your child's red folder in the F.I.S.H. Binder for our weekly homework sheet. I have also included our first list of spelling words that will be on the spelling test on Friday.
