Classroom Happenings-Volume 8

Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love Him with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30

This Week:
This week, we will be focusing on the story of Joshua and Caleb. We will determine the importance of trusting God with heart, soul, mind, and strength. Students will also analyze characteristics of key people in the account of the Battle of Jericho.

Reading groups continue to be one of our favorite times of the day! We will continue to focus on reading comprehension in our Jack and Jilly readers. We will also be exploring different ways to practice our spelling words. In Writer's Workshop, we will be working on the beginning, middle, and end of a story. Students will practice writing a story that includes all three parts. We will also continue using descriptive words and details to "spice" up our sentences!

In Math, we will continue to work on speed and accuracy with our doubles facts. We will also begin practicing addition facts plus one. (2+1, 3+1...) Students will be introduced to the Saxon Learning Wrap-Ups to help connect the problems with the answers. In Science, we will be discussing what to do to recover from a disaster as a community. I have also decided to spend a little more time on exploring weather and the tools meteorologists use.
